Location: Country Club Drive and Main Street in Mesa

Description: A five-story 198-unit apartment complex with 19,000 square feet of commercial space along 2 acres at Country Club Drive and Main Street is under construction.

The project, called Residences on Main, sits on a roughly 2-acre parcel at the corner of Country Club Drive, which was left untouched for more than 20 years.

The $90 million investment from Chicanos Por La Causa is part of the organization's mission to increase the number of housing units amid the state’s shortage. The ground floor commercial space will house small local businesses.

History of site: In the 1990s, the city began condemning land at the Country Club Drive and Main Street intersection as an urban renewal effort to make way for an Ace Hardware store.

Randy Bailey, owner of Bailey’s Brake Services, sued the city, saying its plans went outside of its power because the land would be used for a private, not public use.

It took years for any development to spur on the lot in part because of a failed city eminent domain case. That forced the city to put a 10-year moratorium on any development.

When will the work be done? The project is scheduled to be completed in January 2026, according to Chicanos Por La Causa.

Final Thoughts:

After decades of delay, meaningful development is finally coming to the long-vacant corner of Country Club Drive and Main Street in Mesa. The $90 million Residences on Main project by Chicanos Por La Causa will deliver 198 new apartment units and 19,000 SF of commercial space—blending much-needed housing with opportunities for local businesses. This transformative project not only revitalizes a historically stagnant site but also addresses Arizona’s growing housing shortage with a community-focused approach. Completion is set for January 2026.
