Tempe was named the most popular metro Phoenix suburb to move to in 2025, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by relocation company moveBuddha, analyzed suburbs in 50 of the most populous United State metro areas to determine which are most in-demand based on search data from the website's Moving Cost Calculator.

According to the company's 2025 moving survey, one-third of Americans want to live in a suburb — the most popular living environment for respondents because of their friendly community, sprawling space, school options and quiet environment.

The study showed Tempe not only ranked No. 1 in Phoenix, but it also made it into the top 10 most popular suburbs in the nation.

Here's why Tempe ranked so high on the list, as well as a roundup of the top U.S. suburbs to move to this year.

These are the 10 most in-demand suburbs to move to this year, along with their move-in-to-out ratio, according to moveBuddha.

A move-in-to-out ratio greater than 1 indicates more people are moving into the area than leaving. For example, Tempe's ratio of 1.69 shows nearly 2 people are moving into the city for every person leaving.

  1. Summerville, South Carolina: 3.54

  2. Meridian, Idaho: 2.50

  3. St. Augustine, Florida: 2.00

  4. Vancouver, Washington: 1.99

  5. Frisco, Texas: 1.82

  6. Tempe: 1.69

  7. St. Paul, Minnesota: 1.67

  8. Fort Mill, South Carolina: 1.67

  9. Clermont, Florida: 1.66

  10. Cary, North Carolina: 1.62

Why is Tempe metro Phoenix's most popular suburb?

Tempe is known for its walkable downtown, thriving arts scene and various things to do around the city. It is also a college town popular with students for its social environment and the professional and academic opportunities it offers, such as the share of part-time jobs and the earning potential for college graduates, according to a WalletHub study from October 2024.

According to study analysts, Tempe's strong job market, vibrant lifestyle and safety also make it an attractive suburb for movers. The city's tech, education and health care industries contribute to its strong economic growth, while its urban-style amenities, safe streets and strong biking culture give Tempe a city feel within a suburban setting, analysts said.

However, due to its popularity, Tempe is also among the suburbs with the most competitive housing markets. The median home value in Tempe is about $477,600, which is more than $100,000 higher than the national average.

However, the average home value matches the other suburbs on the list, which had a combined average of $472,482.

Final Thoughts:

If you're considering a move to Arizona, Tempe is calling your name! Ranked as one of the hottest suburbs in the U.S. for 2025, this vibrant city blends the best of urban living with a welcoming suburban feel. A thriving job market, a strong sense of community, and a buzzing lifestyle make it an unbeatable choice for professionals, students, and families alike. Whether you're drawn by Tempe’s walkable downtown, arts scene, or career opportunities in tech and healthcare, this city is proof that Arizona isn’t just growing—it’s thriving. Thinking about making the move? Now’s the time!
